Signe Wilkinson's honors include the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning (the first woman to win this award), the 1997, 2001 and 2007 Overseas Press Club Award, the 2002 RFK Award and she has the distinction of having been named "the Pennsylvania state vegetable substitute" by the former speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Her cartoons are syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group.

It is the laws against the drugs that cause the crimes to be committed. If they were legal and the money given to the legal industry used for treatment, none of the crimes in this cartoon would happen

Absolutely true. Had the drug been acquired in the above-ground market, the farmer would have made a living for himself & family, the police guy coulda been catching murderers & rapists, the “mule” might have found a real job in a country where peace, (instead of war on the streets that caused the police guy’s assassination), had enhanced the market place opportunities. Ditto for the inner-city kid.
Not to mention that the drug user would have no danger from a drug possibly adulterated with poison, or so much more unadulterated than he is used to as to cause his overdose.

Exactly. It’s not so much that it’s a “victimless crime”, it’s the criminalization that creates the victims.
Perhaps that blood should be shown on the hands of those who favor the so-called war on drugs.
