It’s that early Chrysler power steering ! And yes, I know Cosmo’s driving a Desoto but it was a Chrysler product.

A Pontiac ‘Wide Track’ would be the perfect alibi.

I once had a bat fly through a open window and into the cab of my truck, just after I had left one of my local watering holes. Unbeknownst to me, I had a Highway Patrol Officer right behind me, watching me swerve all over the road , trying to get the bat out. I, finally, pulled off the road, jumped out my truck, raced around to the other side and opened that door, as well, to get the bat out.
It was only then that I saw the cop standing by his cruiser, with one hand on his gun and the most amazed expression on his face.
He told me, had he not seen the bat fly out of the truck, I probably would have been spending the night in the drunk tank. As it was, all my Sheriff’s Dept. and FHP friends started calling me Bat Man.

One summer’s evening, around dusk, as I was riding down the highway on my motorcycle, singing away to myself, I had a thought that it might not be a good idea, as I was coming into a swampy area and there could be bugs, so I stopped….just in time, as a (bat or bird?) smacked me right in the mouth!

I know. I’ve owned some old Mopars!
However, the lightest power steering that I ever drove was on a ’62 Buick LeSabre. You could turn that huge barge with your left pinky.

I had a ‘58 Plymouth, ala “Christine”, although it was creme-colored. Definitely not Chrysler’s finest hour.

actually everything American with recirculating ball steering was pretty dicey. That’s why they made Interstates.

Those were some cars in their day. Chrome, fins, no plastic, huge, and of course; rusty, gas hogs, rattles, squeaks, high maintenance! LOL!!
