    I prefer the times when portly was a sign of affluence.

    Exactly. With around two and a half centimetres to the inch, going metric doesn’t help.

    A 50 inch waist, converted to hexadecimal would be 32 …

    Then there are those who buy the same size waist as when they were not so portly — they just wear them lower.

    it does if you use meters, or even decimeters… ’course if he really wanted to “downsize” he could use parsecs

    I wear the same size pants as I did 40 years ago. No, I haven’t remainded the same, it’s the pants manufacturers that cheat and put in elastic bands and call them “relaxed fit.”

    I’ve got one of those. 33" and a looser fit than any of my 34".

    My 36" wasted pants felt loose so I measured my waist, 40". Pant manufacturers are lying to all of us!

    My scales has a button that switches it to kilograms (I’m in America) – it had been accidentally switched – I knew the weight amount was wrong but it was the best measurement I have had in years. :-) Then I fixed the scales and tried again :-(

    @Omnius

    50 inches or 128 cm, both are DECIMAL.
    Going METRIC makes the waist size larger unless, as someone said, you use decimeters (12.8) or meters (1.28).
    50 (dec)= 32(hex); 128(dec)= 80(hex)
    I’ve taught all this stuff for years …
