What we need is a slate of “99%” candidates in 2014 and 2016, made up of ordinary Americans who are not beholden to special interests or to either of the two major political parties.
They must pledge to enact major reforms in Congress if they gain the majority.

Ash, that is a wonderful idea. But you know they would never be elected. I can think of at least two reasons why. The first is that they simply would not have enough money to buy the votes needed. The second is they would probably tell the bare, naked truth about what is going on and what needs to be done and you know that is death to any politician.

Term is limited when the voters decide?

The ultimate “term limit” is in the future. That is $16.2 million million in debt and $120 million million in unfunded obligations like SS, Medicare, etc. That is a total of $136 trillion in money already “spent”; over $400,000 per citizen. Bankrupt? Yes.

We should elect someone who believes that, but then they’d just turn into a politician….

Start with your state legislators who jigger the congressional districts to preserve the seats for their party.

Actually, russ, I think politicians have shown that they could not care less about the citizenry, to whom they pay lip service for six weeks prior to every election. Alan Keyes hit it on the head when he said the day “politician” became a career choice is the day we lost the republic.

I’m reminded of a Leno gag where he said he didn’t favor term limits for politicians; he believed they should serve the entire sentence, no limits, no time off for good behavior…

Fire them? We just keep re-electing them! In my state every single incumbant was re-elected! People keeps saying ’we need new people in Washington" but keep voting the same way.
