Skyler’s such a bookworm - NOT!
Yukoner said, 3 months ago
Actually, its a series of books and a series of movies.
tbree said, 3 months ago
Yeah, and everything is copyrighted. Sure he can even mention it without a (c) symbol somewhere?
Allan Claus said, 3 months ago
hmmmm Skylar can you be any more vague?

It sounds like Skylar never read the book, so it must have been a homework assignment. If he hadn’t been forced to read it (if his friends had introduced it to him, for example), he’d have probably read the entire series and been able to explain it to his uncle.

For Skyler benefit, he didn’t answer “It’s a movie” (or series of movies)… that would really be way too much information.

“Harry Potter” is NOT a book, NOT a series of books, NOT a series of movies – “Harry Potter” is a CHARACTER in a series of books and the movies derived from those books.

Some of you crows by gloating over your vast knowledge, or lack there of, get so stinking technical you ruin all the fun. Loosen up.

Hey EarlWash:
As a group, the crows show remarkable examples of intelligence, and Aesop’s fable of The Crow and the Pitcher shows that humans have long viewed the crow as an intelligent animal. Crows and ravens often score very highly on intelligence tests. Certain species top the avian IQ scale. Wild hooded crows in Israel have learned to use bread crumbs for bait-fishing. Crows will engage in a kind of mid-air jousting, or air-“chicken” to establish pecking order.
(Just kidding…I actually agree with you.)

Harry Potter is a character - a brave and loyal one - in a series of seven huge books plus 8 movies, plus several video games and a lot of fan fiction and fan art. The story is not just about Magic. More importantly, it is about Loyalty and Courage and Friendship and Love and Honor and Pity and Pride and Compassion and Sacrifice. Also about Quidditch.

Harry Potter is a book? Wow, I thought it was some guy that makes clay jugs & such.

I remember in the bad neighborhood that I lived in for awhile, we had a neighbor referred to as Harry “The Honker” Potter. He worked for some vague employer and went out at night many times, and came back kinda dirty.
We never asked him what he did, because he always gave us a gawd-awful stare when we did.
FREAKY!!

I hope Skylar doesn’t read those pagan indoctrination manuals. Their obscene glorification of witchery only serves Satan. Might as well read a book on EVILution.

Hey virtual wind, I was thinking of cowboys in movies saying Howdy. I can see and hear Henry Fonda saying it now. Not Harry Potter though.
whitecarabao said, 3 months ago
Ushindi, Amen to that!
The only people I have heard condemning the Harry Potter stories have never read them and refuse to listen to anyone who doesn’t support their preconceived prejudices. Numerous religious people have pointed out the Christian lessons taught in the books. As for the “magic” presented in the stories, it is as dangerous as the magic in “Mother Goose” and other folk tales. The words of the “spells” are often clever puns and quite amusing.

Come on! Jesus said “Suffer ye not the little child witch to live, that he may come unto me!” That’s clear enough, isn’t it?

There are people who try to claim that C. S. Lewis’ “Chronicles of Narnia” book series is “Christian Allegory.”
During World War II, children from London stayed at Lewis’ country estate and he discovered that those children didn’t have much of an imagination of their own. And they lacked hope for their futures.
That inspired him to write fairy tale type books which would inspire a person to have hope, too.
I read the whole book series and I gave sets of the “Chronicles” collection as Christmas presents to the children of my siblings.
Since no child has ever been forced to read the “Harry Potter” book series, those who get the books have to be told by their parents to take a break and do something else.
Skylar might not have wanted to read other novels; but, since he is been given human characteristics, he probably has read all of the books and seen all of the movies that are out so far.

Harry Potter is for enjoyment. Witch burners and Inquisitors don’t have a grip on reality. Those that enjoy Harry Potter stories don’t seem to have that problem (at least not anywhere near as bad). Otherwise we’d have more Hogwarts popping up and graduating more Harry Potters. Given your viewpoint it seems you are stuck in some evolutionary whirlpool. Don’t be a slave to dogma.
fritzoid said, 3 months ago
You see, religious fundamentalists have trouble distinguishing between fiction and reality. Of course, if they COULD make that distinction, they wouldn’t be religious fundamentalists.
NoBrandName said, 3 months ago
Very eloquently put, fritzoid.

If those religious wackos have trouble with Harry Potter, I’d hate to think what they’d percieve of “the Wizard of Id”.

I would love to do some of those Expecto Patronum and Accio spells, but I have no idea of where to get the unicorn horn or phoenix feather to make a magic wand!
