…and t.v. channels were 2-4-5-7-9-20-36 and 44. And no such thing as a remote control.

And we lived for a cartoon on The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday night!

We only had channel 6 and at the mercy of local programming, alas, on the bright side, friday we had “creature features” and saturday cartoons! (Bugs Bunny)

30-38 years ago, cable-less Calgarians got only channels 2 (CFAC–local), 4 (CFCN/CTV) and 9 (CBC). On cable, some transmogrifications (2->7, 4->5, 9->6) and the following additions: French-CBC 11 and Spokane-based 3 (NBC), 8 (ABC), 12 (CBS) and 13 (PBS). Almost as mfboyd stated about cartoons (mostly Saturday mornings–although 2/7 did have Herc for half-hour 7:00-7:30 am and Marvel Superheroes 7:30-8:00 am).
I guess Skyler is not used to the concept of “chicken-scratch” notes.

We had 3, 6, 10, 12, sometimes 27, and sometimes 33. Once in a blue moon we even had 15!

Great outdoors (especially in AB) is an excellent alternative to moron-box: we actually made Saturday trips to Banff, Drumheller and Gull Lake, full-weekend trip to Waterton–and somewhat longer (and much less-nice) summer roadtrip to Yellowstone (in 1975–when it really seemed funny that we could speed along at 70 down to border, and then had to “hold horses” to 55, especially in MT’s vast vehicle-sparse expanses).

The kids today miss so much! Remember getting caught passing a note? You had to read it out loud to the class then, at least in my class you did! Talk about embarrassing!

You guys all sound as old as I am. I’m quite familiar with the time there was no remote control and we passed notes. Now I even have a remote control with my air conditioner

Use a Q-tip and a swab with lemon juice. Hold it up to a light bulb and you could read it. If you got caught, the paper was blank.

Oh, I don’t know. Growing up, my dad had a remote. He would say “Donna, change the channel.”

In my house we had a radio. Hy ho Silver, the Shadow Knows, Etc. We listened while doing dishes, etc.

We passed notes by rolling them up and putting them in ink pen barrels.

Silverpearl - My folks would tell us kids about the family sitting around and watching “The Radio”. Said we were too spoiled with modern technology back in the 50’s.
