Yes, Leopold….you know he could also have told the truth too…. they burned when trying to get free and the laptop probably controlled the circumstances….

If dead people go to hell, then how do they burn them alive?

The assumption is an immortal part which lives on after the body is dead, able to know and suffer forever. That is what Leopold hopes.

I imagine this strip would be kind of spooky to the religious people who literally believe in and fear burning in hell forever. Two things perplex me. 1. If the sinners go to hell, wouldn’t they be on the same side as the devil, so why does he burn them? 2. Since the devil gets so many more soles than god gets, does that mean the devil is winning their battle?

Not all religious persons have the same concept of “hell”.
    []
For example, the concept held by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (re: “The Mormons”) is that Hell is more akin to a solitary confinement cell in a prison; each condemned person is essentially alone, in the dark, with their thoughts and a sure knowledge of just what they did to get down that far.
    []
Especially since you have to try to get booted down that hard.

It would if that were the goal and if they were his.

A poor victory, though, winning all the rejects.

Perhaps cruising on over to YouTube and watching the Rowan Atkinson sketch “Welcome to Hell” would settle this discussion.

Yes. The LDS afterlife myth is a huge improvement on the other christian/muslim hell myths. LDS also does better re original sin. If I were shopping for a religion, those would be plusses. On balance, I’m quite happy limiting myself to reality.

As I understand it everyone gets a perfect immortal body. One can be tortured forever and never die.

    Oh joy.
    .
I am reminded of a science fiction short story in which the scientist discovered a serum for eternal life. The thought of being married to his wife forever drove him to murder her. (I’m Assuming divorce was a sin and unthinkable.) He said nothing during his trial because that state did not allow the death penalty if no defense was presented. He screamed upon sentence of life, presumably without parole. I figured he could wait out the collapse of the government.

It’s described as a Lake of Fire in the book of Revelation. Humans are raised from the dead and judged. The judgement a Christian has is one of rewards, and it’s possible to have none, getting to heaven with all of one’s deeds burning up at the rewards judgement. The judgement of the unbeliever is to the Lake of Fire.
    .
As far as bodies, Paul touches on that. Apparently everyone gets a body when they are raised, but the nature of those going to hell is not clear.
