I think a pair of noise-reduction headphones needs to be actually connected to something in order to work, but other than that I salute the idea ;)

Actually Bose makes a pair that can JUST eliminate the background noise. Great for sleeping on the Plane or Train!

I have something better and cheaper than noise-reduction headphones: I have taught my daughters that, if they see me wearing headphones, unless it’s an actual emergency, I’m having “private time”. (We have a very small apartment, so it’s the only way I can do it.)

I tested a couple of models of noise reduction headphones in a store that was selling them a few years ago. They reduced background sounds but did not eliminate them. I don’t know whether they’ve gotten better since then, but I kind of doubt it.

but she’s also reading – and I know that I can get involved enough with a good book to block a lot of noise without headphones. So, add the headphones (and the loud dryer), and much of what they are saying might be hard to understand. :)

Right. So how is it better than earplugs? Cheaper, maybe?

I want my husband to get a pair of those. Then I can still watch TV while he studies.

Earplugs don’t block out noises, they just reduce them. The Bose ones are the absolute best on the market. They block out everything. I’m a Bose person though and have their home theater systems in both rooms where the TV’s are, and their headphones and earbuds. I even have the computer system on my computer. 100% Bose. Jimbo must make good money though because those noise blocking headphones aren’t cheap.

Work for Bose do you?
Keith Russell said, 2 months ago
V-Moda, though they don’t completey block out all noise, they reduce most of it. Plus the music and sound quality is so, so much better than Bose.

No I do not work for Bose, but I feel that if you like something, use it and can recommend it to others, then do so. If others like another product better, that’s fine. I was just giving my opinion.

I’m with you on this. My first thought, after I saw that the headphones weren’t connected to anything, was: Why not just simple earplugs?

I have a pair of V Moda earbuds. Not noise cancelling, but a snug enough fit and excelent sound quality that when lstening to music it does a good enough job of blocking noise.
