Rose is Rose presents the extraordinary nature of everyday life as seen through the eyes of the Gumbo family. The strip stars child-at-heart Rose and her ASD (Attentiveness Surplus Disorder) husband Jimbo. Their gentle son Pasquale is watched over by his Guardian Angel who morphs from tiny cherub into gargantuan protector. Family kitten Peekaboo boasts that her humans are the cutest in town. Readers relish the romance in Rose and Jimbo's marriage, yet cheer the emergence of Rose's rebel alter ego, the fearless, wild and ready-to-roll Vicki the Biker

As a retired teacher I understand Rose’s reaction; I have those thoughts also.

I think you should be proud to have been able to have helped those students gather the tools they needed to succeed. I salute you and all other great teachers!

Just because you have helped someone to accomplish something in his or her life, does not mean that you have failed in your own. It is often that we provide the colors for other peoples masterpiece. Stand back and enjoy the big picture.

Rose, if it wasn’t for you, that novel may never have been written. It doesn’t need to have your name on it. Our lives are like ripples on a pond – be content with your contribution. And be happy that you were actually able to find out that something you did helped someone in a positive way. A lot of us never have that revealed to us.

Apparently, if Rose did something with her life it would be a novel experience.

Some of will never know the huge impact we had. You just have to do the best you can.

Rose HAS done something with her life. She’s raising a wonderful kid, has the love of a good man, and is happy in what she does. There’s an old saying “being happy is better than being rich” and the two don’t always go together.

My sister in law had this issue when the girl scout troop she worked with hit high school. Regardless of the positive impact she has as a mother and volunteer, she pulled out the high school yardstick of popularity and ‘success’ to measure herself and found herself lacking. Sad.

What a lovely bunch of uplifting comments today! I see we have quite a few philosophers among us!

That is the highest compliment a teacher can receive. Although I spent only 13 years teaching I had a couple of students come back years later and tell me one of the subjects I taught was the most valuable they ever had. I’ve been walking on air ever since – and that was over two decades ago!

Philosopher, my… er, butt. There’s an artist living in England (I’ve gone blank on his name darn it) who got his start at the arts centre where I worked for almsot 30 years. As a child, he took every art class he could, and now he’s a succssful artist. I take pride in knowing that my favourite workplace got him started.
