This is for you Max Garcia. And something about your ’Beware of God" toon last week just made me feel that much better about this. Enjoy my friend!

This one is particularly funny to me on a more personal level. For me it really hits home. I have always went by the code, if I like you alive, I miss you dead. If I didn’t like you when you were alive, I still don’t like you when you die.

My wife has told me before I was terrible because someone we knew that we didn’t like died and I made a comment that I wouldn’t miss him.

Too many times I have seen the hypocrisy of someone trash talking somebody and the minute they die that person is elevated to almost sainthood statis.

People sometimes tell me you should not talk ill of the dead, but focus on their virtues. I respond with, “okay, I’m listening tell me the virtues of Hitler or Ted Bundy.”

Not caring that someone died does not mean I wished them dead. I just can’t pretend that I liked them. I can even feel bad for their loved ones, but not them.
Sorry Derrick, I guess you didn’t expect someone to get on their soapbox here, I will step down now. Very good comic today, though.

Now one quick true story and I will go.
Ohio had a govener a few decades ago that I didn not like. I felt he was corrupt and that opinon was shared by others. Yet he kept getting elected. He even had some gaps but managed to make it back. About 8 years after he finally retiered he passed. My reaction was just short of celebrating. My wife told me that I was terrible because no one should relish the death of another, no matter how bad he is.

I said, “maybe your right. You should speak good of the the dead.”
    “That’s right,” she concurred.
    I answered, “Rhodes is dead….Good!”

I bet if there were more honesty at funerals like that, more people would come to say good rid— I mean, fair well.

I think you are right. I’ll try to test it at my funeral and you tell me how it goes..wait, that won’t work…

Just saw the Dr an hour ago. I am on light duty 1-2 more weeks. Meaning no drawing for now. DRATS!!! But the hand is feeling a lot better. A lot less pain. Thanks for asking.

I have two left handed drawing (and am doing 2-3 more today) that should be up next week. They look horrible, but oh-well.

I am mostly bummed because I had a Titanic tribute in mind for this Sunday that I can’t do now. I wanted it for the 100th anniversary of the sinking. I have been a Titanic lover since I was a kid. About the time Dr. Ballard discovered the wreck’s location in the mid-80’s.

Yeah, I actually like when you’re ‘on a soapbox’ Dave. It is always a good read.

I am a great believer in respecting the dead, but that shouldn’t include erasing the negativity of their life.

You mentioned Hitler, I have a DVD of his home movies that is creepy. He is at his home with Eva and he is holding children, petting dogs, riding bikes and having fun -even laughing. It wasn’t propaganda either, they were private home recordings. It was unbelievably bizarre watching that monster and seeing that he sort of had this human side. Personally, that DVD made him more terrifying in my mind.

You don’t respect the dead, they don’t know the difference. You respect the relatives who are stlll living who, whether they did or did not love the departed, still have to go on living. If you don’t like them either, don’t send flowers.

Oh yes, respect the relatives. I agree 100%. I actually wanted to work in the mortuary business until I found out it is just that- a business. Crying people who have lost their loved ones are being treated like they’re buying a car and the dealer wants to make sure they get all the expensive options. It’s sick. It’s completely twisted.

It is the human side of the monster that made people want to follow him. By the time they saw the real monster that he was, they had already gone through the one-way turnstile. They couldn’t back out.

I see. I didn’t realize that he showed that side. All I ever saw before the DVD was the maniac
