If corp. are people, will some go to prison for the financial scandals? How does a corp. go to prison?

The government is made up of people. The elected are supposed to represent people.

But there shouldn’t be undue influence from money that is counted as “free speech”. And I don’t care if that is from individuals, corporations or unions.

Have the flip between elected and lobbyist turn even faster? No thanks.

    Easier said than done..
Only 40% vote (roughly) and 4 % participate in politics ( a guess).
    We need reform….
maybe even mandatory voting…with a “none of the above option” .

Try reading “It’s even worse than it looks” by Mann and Ornstein. It’s an interesting take on how we got to this situation.

    A government led by the people….may back then, a majority of the people participated …now its what……1% ? , 4% ?
    Do I exaggerate ?

    “Wrong doers in government” ??
Or, do you mean “Different doers” ??
But, I do agree….those who wrote financial deregulation should now pay the price..

Much as I’d love to see money removed from government, I have to say that it wouldn’t even matter if we didn’t let our opinions (and our votes) be swayed by slick commercials with out-of-context sound bites and blatant untruths.
The problem’s in the mirror, guys. How do we solve it?

NANTUCKET asks “How does a corp. go to prison?”

Enron’s CFO Fastow got ten years. His wife Lea got one year. CEO Skilling got 24 years. Chairman Ken Lay was eligible to be sentenced to 45 years, but died just before sentencing. Chief Accounting Officer Rick Causey got 7 years. Kenneth Rice, the former chief of Enron Corp.‘s high-speed Internet unit, who cooperated and whose testimony helped convict Skilling and Lay, got 27-months. The accounting firm of Aurthur Anderson was found guilty of obstruction of justice and forced out of business, taking with it 85,000 jobs. The conviction was later overturned but their image was tarnished and couldn’t reorganize. 3 British employees of Natwest were sentenced to 37 months.

    So, it’s been done.
