    Oops……..

The Associated Press is out with a study of the 2012 election concluding that the black voter turnout rate exceeded the white turnout rate for the first time. It’s almost certainly true that black turnout was higher than white turnout last fall — but that also was true in 2008.

I keep wondering if the reason that cartoonists keep drawing the KKK members as representing this tired, old, feeble idea is that it’s the only thing they can draw. Give it a rest, Rob, people aren’t buying it anymore.

No pretending needed those “Democrats” became staunch “Republicans” when LBJ pushed through the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

I am sorry this is a bunch of crap it was harder for me to vote last time . We do need more checks on voters there was a story were a women voted at least 6 times in the last election she sent In a absentee ballot for herself, her brother , her niece, and someone else who lived in her house from time to time and she voted at the polls herself and so did her niece. I am sorry one person 6 votes and you say it is harder for blacks to vote. And I think they should spend more time checking the votes out and this lady should lose her voting rights. Also she worked at the voting place how many people did she vote for that did not show up at the polls

With only 20,000 members, I’m surprised that the KKK is still being used as a bogeyman.

This is completely made up. Probably by you and probably on the spot. Only people who believe this story should be given a literacy test before voting.

Care to post a link to your story? I worked as an election judge. I don’t know about your state, but in mine, no person is ever allowed to be alone with ballots or voters.

There’s nothing illiterate about Walker’s post. If you didn’t understand it, then you’re the one with a literacy problem.

    “What happened?”

The Supreme Court held 5-4 that the Voting Rights Act is still valid. However, the metrics that are used to decide which areas of the country are more likely to need oversight by the DOJ to ensure no voter suppression are too old to continue to be used. Sort of understandable, but the South is still the South…
Regardless, the Court directed Congress to determine where the likely pockets of voter suppression might be to direct DOJ as to where their oversight is needed. Of course, Congress won’t do anything about anything, so this effectively trashes the law, making it open season for voter suppression from here forward.
Those are the facts. Spin them the way you want.

I would like to believe that the United States is a post-racial society. I’d like to, but I don’t.

Oh! Come on! Be realistic. What they did was take all the teeth out of the one legislation that curtailed voter suppression in these states. Now you say, “Hey congress re-write the laws to make them more fair”. But we have a congress that can’t agree if the sun rises in the east or if the earth turns from left to right. Nothing will be done or accomplished with a tea party stained congress and so the law protecting voters is now dead. Get the facts right, but also get the reality straight.

So the Supreme Court decided to do something about it! That explains it!
