Basements are warm and safe if you live in areas that are getting the brunt of all the displaced arctic cold.
The warming Pacific ocean has altered the wind patterns across Alaska, we have gained six degrees since the 70’s.
This warm displaced air has disrupted the jet stream and it now carries the cold air down across Canada into the central USA, causing extreme cold bursts.
Alaska ends up 40 degrees to the good and the states end up 40 degrees to the bad.

We have gone from getting this pattern once every year or so to five or six per year and it is getting intense enough to reach Georgia.
This is called climate change and it is not going away.

snowbirds still came and didn’t leave, sigh
Tell me about it. San Diego’s had that kind of growth for many, many decades. It was in the 70’s today, but we continue in a horrible drought (just a little over 3" of rain last year).

So Adrian, my tongue in cheek remark elicited your question. There happens to be “8 States: Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas, Illinois, Texas, Alabama, New York, & Oregon” with a city called Jacksonville.

But yes, I understand that Robert is referencing to the one in Florida.
