    Big business, wall street and the mafia all got their claws into nuclear energy. That is why it is such a mess in the USA.

    Isn’t that German: “Machts nichts” or something?
    Signifies “means not” – not important.
    Has anybody taken this stand?

    @Gore Bane

    Did “Number 10” has anything to do with “Mama San”? Just trying to broaden my horizon ;-)

    The problem with MOX is that it contains some Plutonium, by design (but I don’t know which Isotope exactly). Uranium is relatively harmless compared with P. which is a terrible toxin and has a half-life of 15.000 years. Bad stuff. So putting it in fuel rods intentionally is not a good idea (one isotope of P. will be created during operation of the reactor anyway).

    I like to strongly suggest to all nations on earth to follow the German way and get rid of this outdated and dangerous technology. Solar, wind, hydro together with good networks and storage-technology can replace all nuclear power worldwide. It’s just a thing of WANTING it to end. Remember Fukushima and Chernobly. It will happen again. These calculations of “one in a million” events are flat out LIES by greedy bastards…

    “Signifies “means not””

    That’s the literal translation. It actually translates as “It doesn’t matter”.

    @Ms. Ima

    When logic fails, use an unwarranted personal argument. “Ms. Ima” has therefore conceded Clark Kent’s point.

    The whole MOX program was long delayed and way over budget. It getting the axe was way overdue.

    Plutonium is just plain nasty stuff. The “energy world” in all forms is controlled by very monopolistic folks who control oil, coal, all fossil fuels, and have moved on to “invest” in wind, solar and nuclear. The dirtiest word they can here isn’t plutonium or contamination (from any source) it’s “conservation”.

    0.02% currently. Build more windmills. and hydro, and solar, and wave and geothermal. no one is suggesting we shut down everything else and run on wind exclusively today.

    He better do something GOOD for the Environment! After approving the Monsanto protection bill he has a LOT of explaining to do!He will almost certainly sign the OK for the tar-sand-pipeline, which has about12 leaks a year. Forgot to do the MATH on the cost of the clean-up attempts, times 12 a year times however many years it takes to have the groundwater poisoned, and the animals are dead from drinking that stuff.

    I can tell you that the ratio in Germany is much higher. That’s because we invested and continue to invest in all of these alternative energies. We have committed ourselves to a) reign in CO2 and b) get rid of nuclear – at the same time! Ambitious, yes, but that’s how you do it, not by bickering and arguing and negativity. Remember the Star Trek motto: “To boldly go where no man has gone before” :-)
