Hagel seems qualified in most aspects, but I am concerned about his alleged homophobia. I will, however, be amused if the anti-gay republicans try to use it as a reason to disqualify him.

Senate confirmation hearings consists of:
Senator wants soundbite to be in the news.
Senator rants for 15 minutes.
Senator takes 15 seconds to ask question.
Senator gives applicant 15 seconds to answer.
Go to next Senator.
Repeat.

A loose cannon to be in charge of cannons?………..http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/loose-cannon.html

Ariail did a great job of showing us how contentious the republicans are in confirmation hearings for Obama appointees. Hagel will need his combat armor for sure. I’m not wild about Hagel being an ex republican but I like that he’s been a fellow enlisted man during ‘Nam. I like that he’s not a loose cannon like Dummy Rummy.

I have a theory: President Obama nominated Hagel knowing the right wing chicken hawks will not confirm him. This will make republicans look even more out of touch and extreme than they already appear.

I’m glad Hagel seems to have a more realistic stand on Israel. I’m tired of us backing down every time Bebe decides to something antagonistic. How many more settlements? He even announced some while Biden was in Israel waiting to meet him. I am not absolving the Arabs, it just seems that this prime minister is going out of his way to thumb his nose at us.

Looks like 8 years of Obama nominating “useful shields” (Hagel is a Rino GOP clone of Obama’s leftist policies)
and “lowest common denominator” clones….

Anyone want to bet that if “President-Elect” Romney had nominated Hagel to be Sec. of Defense, the Republicans in the Senate would be praising him to the heavens, led by McCain??
Stipple said, 5 months ago
I don’t like McCain on the panel, he stood too close to Sarah too long and her crazy leaked over into him.
.
Wish the situation was less like an embassy, like Hagel should be able to shoot back instead of taking it.

You have to be able to change minds before you can make republicans look even more out of touch and extreme than they already appear. Based on the last election and all the rhetoric preceding it about “undecided” voters you have 41% of the people who will never believe anything but the republicans have their back. You will never change their mind. You have 51% of the people who realize already that the republicans can’t be trusted with important matters, like running this country or protecting this country. That leaves only 8% of the people who might be susceptible to your premise.
By the way 47% of all statistics are made up on the spot, and are usually false. The numbers I used in the previous paragraph have no basis in reality but are used for the purpose of demonstrating a point, not to be statistically factual.

Actually 8% of the populace identify with the Tea Party. They make up for it in loudness.
That last part was funny, thanks.

Something to look forward to Thanks to redistricting Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson is back in Congress. He tells it like it is.
