Another point about the South Atlantic crossing. They were flying a specially fitted seaplane, with the first artificial horizon, installed.

Then Coutinho flew the Atlantic years ahead of Lindbergh. So why does L. get all the glory?

    L. gets the glory because he did it solo, non-stop.

Also, L. flew the North Atlantic route, which has more hazardous weather.

In the movie ‘Fly Away Home’ a guy flew from port to port with his geese in an ultralight shaped like a goose. His wife was ill because her bra didn’t fit.

Flying across the Atlantic in the planes of that era took a lot of courage. And maybe a small amount of insanity, given the number of fatalities that those flights racked up.

What about the Pacific? Too wide for nonstop flights with planes of that time. And does anyone really know whatever happened to Amelia Earhart? She’s mentioned in one of Joni Mitchell’s songs; methinks Joni is Amelia reincarnated.
