I thought Hawaii was the world’s largest consumer of Spam. Maybe it’s the United States’ largest consumer. (The only way I , a born/bred Washingtonian, like Spam is the Hawaiian treat Spam musubi.

I knew a guy with that skin condition. He buzzed his hair short and it looked like the picture, with weird grooves in his scalp.
Some say that Pacific Islanders like Spam because it tastes like human. I recall reading a Straight Dope article on the subject. Probably just a myth.

Based on the 2012 population of Guam, 162,810, that’s 2,604,000 cans or 217,080 cases at 12 per case.
At 12 ounces net weight per can, that’s 12 pounds of Spam per year.

Having a PHD doesn’t mean you are “smart” and should be president.

It’s ‘musabi’. The real reason spam is so popular in Hawaii and Guam is because sailors and marines in WWII would trade spam (often the only meat available for weeks at a time onboard ship) for other food with the local population. Also, because Hawaii did not become a state until 1959 they did not receive nearly as much ‘Spam and government cheese’ welfare handouts that gave spam a reputation as sub par, ‘poor people’ food….

the armed forces were defacto segregated and had been since the formation of the negro battalions during the Civil War. So don’t try to lay that on Wilson. Try laying it on Lincoln as he was CinC at that time. And please define “bumbling” as it applies to WW I.

Most people think Spam is short for spiced ham, but a friend of mine said it actually stands for its ingredients: Squirrels, Possum, And Mice.
