The US fired the first shots at Pearl Harbor, when the USS Wade fired on what turned out to be a two-man midget submarine, while on patrol. Too bad nobody paid attention.

The commander of the Pacific Fleet is known as Cincpac. Admiral Chester Nimitz was the first Cincpac after Pearl Harbor.
