    Similarly with the Amish in Pennsylvania (and other settlements) like the married South African Ndebele women, married men grow their facial hair, but shave off only the mustaches.

    If they removed the Metal Rings, would their neck still support the head or would it just flop sideways?

    @Tosspott

    From what I understand, it would flop sideways, as their neck muscles atrophy.

    I recall reading that cutting off the metal rings is punishment for infidelity. Her head would flop to the side and she suffocates.

    I hope someone who gets the record (How many can be made from one person’s ashes?) chooses the song ’It’s a Gas’.

    Well, I sure would hate to have to clean up after that thing. I hate to think what their house smells like.

    As soon as giant rodent adoption spreads to Austin, I’ll be thumbing my way back to New York.

    Yes. The good thing about tattoos is that it gives you an easy way to spot a moron.

    I remember, as a child, reading in Ripley’s about the women of the Ubangi trtibe that “stretched their necks” as a sign of beauty. Is this just a rehashing of an old story with slight changes to the “facts?”

    Uh Oh! My bad. Just checked Wiki, and the Ubangis put plates in their lips to stretch them out. Maybe it was the same tribe that “stretched” their necks according to the older Ripley’s version of the story.
