    Didn’t barbers also practice dentistry?

    The origin of the red and white barber pole is associated with the service of bloodletting and was historically a representation of bloody bandages wrapped around a pole. During medieval times, barbers performed surgery on customers, as well as tooth extractions.

    Well, they had to shave the head before doing brain surgery anyway.

    Neighbor had to sue a major car company to get credit for his invention of the variable speed windshield wiper. You should see his summer home on Torch Lake, Michigan. Takes you a few minutes to boat past his frontage.

    Back in the days before malpractice lawsuits, if a barber slipped while cutting his client’s hair, he could always claim that he needed the surgery anyway. Thus inventing the “unnecessary surgery” procedure.

    The guy who invented the radiator overflow bottle didn’t make anything until he sued. Similarly, the guy who invented the quick release ratchet handle saw his idea stolen and marketed.

    @Radish

    I recalled this the other day when I saw a barber pole with a blue stripe as well. “What, you’ve served royalty?”

    I’m not a rocket scientist or a brain barber.

    Red blood stripes on white. There was an episode of “Monsters” where they connected it to servicing vampires.
