Ripley's Believe It or Not has been presenting the incredible and the unusual in illustrated form since Robert Ripley's first "Champs and Chumps" comic published on Dec. 19, 1918. Currently, B.I.O.N. is illustrated by John Graziano, who has been working as an artist and illustrator since 1983, when he received a certificate in illustration from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. He has designed trading card sets and a portrait series based on the 1960s cult TV show "Dark Shadows." John has also created comic strips for "Scream Queens" magazine, designed t-shirts graphics and created storyboards and concept drawings for Hollywood films. Researcher Lucas Stram has worked since 2004 as the voice behind the cartoon, reviewing potential stories, filtering through the hundreds of weekly submissions and putting together the stories for John to bring to life. New submissions are always welcome. Just click here.

Photurus pennsylvanica is the official state insect of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. However, Pennsylvanians call them “lightning bugs.”

the mortgage final payment couldn’t happen in Australia or a lot of other countries. Even when Aussie land still used 1c coins, it was only legal tender to use a max of $10 worth at a time

Currently, pennies are worth 2.2 cents in melt value. So he paid over twice what he had to.

I agree with phritzg . pluse the trips to the bank to get them unless he has been saving them for years .

The IRS has taken the same stand. When a taxpayer tried to pay off his owed taxes with a wheelbarrow full of pennies, they said they weren’t legal tender and made him return with bills. Take a look at our coins. Nowhere does it say that it’s legal tender. Now, the bank may have been more lenient in accepting his final payment of $620 in pennies.

Years ago I took a bag of pennies to the bank (back when they would count them for you) for them to deposit to my account. They later sent me a letter stating that two of the pennies stuck together and were counted as a nickel, resulting in a three cent error, for which they were debiting my account. The postage on the letter (as I recall) was 22 cents. Go figure.

I’m going to Bleaklow Moorlands to bury my enemies. Y’know, if I ever have any.

That’s just dumb, and the banks are legally not required to take a large payment in pennies. However money is money.

The bank I deal with has a coin sorter/counter. It could handle a bushel of pennies in minutes.
