I remember porphyria from an episode of Castle where some lunatic believing he was a vampire had it.

Probably a good idea to stay clear of tanning beds too with a disorder like that one…. Most everyone already knows about
the stuff mentioned in the bottom panel unless you’re living
    under a rock or something.

Those ‘waves’ should be ‘charged’ for causing all that damage!

After reading that story I thought of the movie “Dumb and Dumber” where Jim Carrey’s character reads the poster about astronauts having gone to the moon. And exclaims “ALRIGHT!”

Doesn’t have to be since with the latter you skin cannot heal itself so the damage accumulates till you die by the time you are in your 20’s.

The giant arthropods resemble the “pillbugs” or “doodlebugs” you see in your garden. Harmless but very old lineage.

had a college professor who was extremely light sensitive. Wore sun glasses during lectures and kept his office almost pitch black… His eyes were reddish brown

I wonder what a wave of charged particles would do to a 13-inch buglike amphipod with porphyria? Let’s erase the borders and see!

How else could you have it? It would take some extra ordinary thing to happen to give it to you artificially.
