Rip ran off the road, over a cliff, in August 25th’s strip.
    Then he woke up here.

You know, this has all the makings of an old two-part G I Joe episode in which one of the Joes named “Shipwreck” awaken to find out it’s many years and now he’s married and has a family! If you already know it, then I don’t need to tell you the rest. But this story arc is much like it.

And keep in mind also that his girlfriend (now wife) is named Cobra!

“There’s No Place Like Springfield”, a 2-part episode during Season 1 of the original series. Shipwreck had a secret formula in his head and Cobra created the fake reality to get it. Elements from that very well-written episode would later be seen in subsequent episodes. What an obscure reference!

LOL! And Rip looks just like Shipwreck in this strip! I remember those episodes of GI Joe…Great show…I lived for GI Joe’s growing up as a kid. I think I owned every action figure they made…except wasn’t it like hypnosis or something Shipwreck was under in those stories?

Actually, Shipwreck was suffering from bad scriptwriting.

Probably like the old movie where an American officer with knowledge of the plans for D-Day is kidnapped by the Nazis and put into a fake hospital and told the war is over. They try to get the information out of him, but he figures it out with the help of a pretty nurse and escapes. What does Rip know that someone else might want?

Hey, gang, we of Team Bartilucci love both the movie 36 HOURS (James Garner rules!) and the animated G.I. Joe, one of our favorite episodes (a particular favorite for hubby). If you’re gonna borrow from other films and/or TV shows, borrow from the best! :-) Looking forward to more of this crazy storyline!

NESCAFE?! No wonder it took him this long to come to his senses!
Nescafe Coffee… Proud sponsor of “The Twilight Zone”.

Variations of that story has been used. The one on Next Generation had Picard living the life of a real person. Like real time to him till the program ended with the person’s death. Lived 90 years as someone else.

I;’m expecting Rod Serling to show up because he would do stories like that and usually in a half hour!

Another Variant was used in Stargate: SG-1 in which the Team was captured, separated, brought back from Stasis in the SGC infirmary many years later and questioned about what they each remembered…. turned out to be a Go’a’uld plot. I remember seeing the opening Teaser Scene and telling my Girlfriend at the Time “..It’s a Mind @%&^..”. which was essentially my reaction when I saw this Twist. Still, the fun is in the Realization/escape/retribution portion of the Arc So……Im’a go make Popcorn and wait for the Fireworks!
