I used to watch, and even support with token donations, the Olympics. I do neither any longer: they’ve become too crass and hypocritical for my taste. I rather like Richard’s satirical take.

    Trivia question:

What popular game is most commonly played in the WINTER in the U.S., but is represented in the SUMMER Olympic competitions?

Is it a sport that’s leaving Sacramento and moving to Seattle?

“Is it a sport that’s leaving Sacramento and moving to Seattle?”

Since I haven’t heard anything about the move you mention I can’t be certain the answer is “Yes”, but it seems like you’ve got it.

My grandfather’s name was Arthur, and my father’s name was Allen. Were I to have a son, “Arthur Allen” tops the current list of possible names.

    ARE YOU FROM MY FUTURE?

Quick, tell me who your mother is, so I can meet her and bring you into existence!

Correct! Ratings are lower for the Winter Games than the Summer Games, and I think they could balance them out some if they moved basketball from the latter to the former. Of course, ANY competition that takes place indoors could easily be held at either event. If the NHL can (theoretically) stage games in Miami or Dallas into late May/early June, then they can play hockey anytime anywhere.

My grandfather’s name was Glen Allen, and not long after he died the Seattle Mariners started a player named Glenallen Hill. It was weird hearing every day, “Glenallen hit the ball,” and “Glenallen made an amazing catch!” Luckily he was traded away and I didn’t have to hear this much any more, but the M’s do occasionally play the time Glenallen is currently playing on.
