No, 1976 - 1985 red M&Ms were discontinued after the FDA banned red dye #2. M&Ms used red dye #3, but discontinued the red M&Ms so that people wouldn’t think they were getting bad candy.

Actually, I read that the dye used in blue M&M’s was administered to treat spinal injuries in lab mice. The dye is able to pass into the spinal fluid, and acts as an anti-inflammatory.
