Does methane gas work like helium and is lighter than air?

In fact, it does - but a lot less lighter than helium. ( I know that sounds ungrammatical, but it’s not.)

Joe Allen Doty: Methane (mass = 16) is quite a bit heavier than Helium (mass = 4) but still lighter than components of the air: Nitrogen (mass = 28), Oxygen (mass = 32) Carbon Dioxide (mass = 44). Not sure if you can make floating balloons using methane, let alone a cow (someone much nerdier than me needs to calculate that) but….perhaps….
For anyone willing to take up the challenge, here’s how:
(mass of balloon + cow + gas) divided by volume all three of them take up must be less than the mass of the same volume of air for it to “float”. You can assume that air is only Nitrogen and Oxygen and Oxygen is around 20%. Now all you need is to assume some balloon volume and determine the volume of a cow.
Anyway, it’s funnny

Make a floating balloon with methane? Sounds like a job for the Mythbusters.

Methane is also very flammable, as most guys who have been in the military can attest….

I recommend the farmer get out his BB gun. Or better yet, flaming arrows.

Has this anything to do with how pigs fly? I’m just asking.

You can tell he’s really never worked with cattle. The first thing I thought about was prolapses!! Not very funny. Depends on your perspective. Usually, I find cows very funny!
