There’s not enough room for the Zamboni, either!

Ok lets hear a few stories from some of you cold country folks. anyone ever done what Red is doing. I guess it took some advance planning to have a hose that was not full of ice. Never had the chance to do that on the the Texas Gulf coast or in central Brasil.

One winter at college in Eastern Washington, some students flooded the outdoor basketball courts to make a hockey rink.

We used to make rinks in that way all the time. Make a packed snow perimeter then fill it with water a bit at a time – ½ inch seemed to work pretty well. don’t leave the hose out between applications!

Ha! My first thought was why is Red’s hose not frozen.
We once tried to make a rink in a friends back yard in NoVa. But the freeze/thaw/freeze which happens here made a really rippled surface. It was nearly impossible to skate on.
My dad was from Northern MN. He said they used to drive on the rivers in winter since for some reason the rivers were less likely to be drifted over.

“or in central Brasil.” I just flashed on a tribesman in central Brazil trying to figure out what a hose was. Enjoy the day…

I was in northern Sumatra last month and was trying to explain snow to kids born and raised on the Equator. I am not sure the younger ones believed me.
