When it rained, we got to eat lunch in the classroom, or the auditorium, if you were one of the cafeteria crowd. Movies and games all day. The seven up game is all I remember.

Our school didn’t have an auditorium or cafeteria (four rooms for 8 grades), so if it was raining, we basically sat in one place all day.

I hated rainy days at school when we couldn’t go out and the teacher came up with stupid games to occupy the time.

It really sucks if you’re the teacher. Trust me.

If I were. If I was can refer only to a very specific point of time, if I were, to time in general.

Ditto. Everybody cooped up would drive me nuts. And the teacher would “need to get some supplies”.

Every classroom had a cupboard full of games— snakes and ladders, checkers, parcheesi… When the bell rang twice (the “stay indoors” signal) everybody cheered!
