I would put moist cold cloths on my burning forehead. It didn’t last long. But it eventually helped me break the fever.

Back before modern medicines (i.e.,pre WW-II) we were put in a tub of cold water when fever hit 104+. Rough, but it worked – and heated the water.

Recently I had the ‘flu and my dog Samba wouldn’t leave my side. When I was walking around he stuck to my side like glue and when I went back to bed he lay on the bed with me even though I only have a single bed and he is a good sized border collie. He really couldn’t have been comfortable but even when he was invited to go into the other room to be near the fire he refused to go preferring to stay with me to look after me and keep me company. Any other time I or any one else in the house has been sick he has done exactly the same thing. He is just the most wonderful, loving and loyal dog and we all love him so very, very much.
