Sneaky Bucher: Find the nearest Green Party and get involved. They are one of the few supporting this. They also want instant runoff: vote for first, second, etc. choice. Loser is dropped and other choices redistributed until someone gets a majority (not just a plurality). This way, you get someone most can at least stand, rather than one most don’t want.
David Borck: Maybe he does and you don’t. It was forced by small states who wanted more power to restrict large states’ power or they wouldn’t ratify the Constitution. It operates by giving a plurality total control of each state’s choice of president. It also serves to keep the executive branch out of any input by The People, whom the rich do not trust.

good luck with the constitutional amendment. You’d have better luck at the state level changing to a “proportional” awarding of electoral votes by state vote. (some DO it that way now, I think)

Those wanting a ‘popular vote’ are probably from one of those populous blue states (you know who you are.) If only after the popular vote, candidates would basically only have to campaign in (and care about) 5 states. The electoral college is actually a very good way to include ALL the states. If Popular vote was used this past election, the results would have been muuuuch closer than it looks like with the electoral college.

    62.1 Million Vs 58.8 Million (popular) 51% vs 49%
    332 Vs 206 (elector college) 62% vs 38%

‘squirrelchaser’ stated some excellent facts on this, while ‘hippogriff’ merely rehashed some old biases. Actually, giving added power to the STATES (federalism) is a good idea.
