That welding mask reminds me of the time when I was in grade-school and there was a total solar eclipse.
The school administration was so afraid of kids going blind looking at it that they moved everyone into the inner hallways and classrooms of the school, as far away from any exposed windows as possible, then pulled the blinds to cover the windows so it was impossible to see outside at all. They wouldn’t even show videos or TV broadcasts of the eclipse.
Meanwhile, my brother stayed home that day and he and Dad watched the whole thing, using welding masks and/or naked eye.
Overall I think my school provided an excellent education, but missing that eclipse was a huge disappointment at the time.
