What I really appreciate about your strip is your ability to do detailed backgrounds that stay in the background! So many times everything just becomes a flat jumbled mush of ink. How do you do it?

It’s a combination of controlling line weight and “haloing”. I also use a brush for the characters and a crow quill for backgrounds to further distinguish them. It’s all crucial in B&W comics.

In comic books color is used to create the effect to “adjust” flattened line art. But good B&W art is tougher to color because of the gaps.

That makes a lot of sense on the coloring! Maybe that explains why I’m not so wager to do any coloring. Smart idea with crow quill on background. Man, have I struggled with that. But your halo’ing: very clever. I’ve never heard that term. A new area of research!
