Whew! At least they didn’t go postal.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics has only one table showing populations by type of crime and the latest numbers are for 2010: About 17% are in for drug crimes and just under half are in for non-violent crimes.

When the Catholic Church changes it’s position on contraceptives, I might believe then that this concern about the planet isn’t just hype.

I like how you imply that “what really happened” in the Cleveland case was different and then go on to talk about Chicago. Maybe your synapses are backfiring?

Not “Sir” Mallory – the mountain got him before he could be knighted.

I like him because he’s so stupid! He’s a living caricature. Lampooning him like this is almost redundant.

Have a look at Jefferson’s original draft of the Dec. He says, in the indictment of George III, “he has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating it’s most sacred rights of life and liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating and carrying them into slavery in another hemispere, or to incure miserable death in their transportation hither. this piratical warfare, the opprobium of infidel powers, is the warfare of the Christian king of Great Britain.”

This was removed in the final draft, but Jefferson, a slave owner himself, was critical of that edit.

Two paragraphs earlier in the Dec, Jefferson refers to the indigenous peoples as “merciless Indian savages,” a passage that was retained in the final draft. And, as you point out, it was probably assumed that women were covered in the passages regarding “property.”

I wouldn’t want to have to stick Jefferson into either the “OK” or the “not OK” cubbyhole. Like any human, he could fit into either category, along with “misguided,” “brilliant,” “philandering,” “genius,” and who knows what-all.
