I’d have thought that Frazz would know better than to put up a sign like that. If there was anyone in the school who wasn’t already playing apple hockey, they won’t be able to resist now.

I have no problems with raisin cookies… when I’m in the mood for a raisin cookie. But it’s really disappointing to bite into one expecting chocolate and get raisins instead.

And I don’t know why oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, the best of both worlds, aren’t more popular.

Of course the kid considers that. But if his uncle’s the type to keep it colder in the summer than in the winter, then the uncle probably doesn’t consider it.

We good cyclists are out there, and we’re not as rare as 5%. I’d say we’re closer to 50%… but that’s still way too many jerks and idiots. I really wish that the police would start pulling over the ones who ride on the wrong side, or blow through red lights, and then maybe they’d behave, and other drivers would treat us with more respect.

But being a good cyclist does not mean riding on the shoulder instead of in the traffic lanes. Would you drive on the shoulder? No, because it’s usually not a very good surface, and that’s even more relevant for a bike than for a car: Your car won’t fall over if it hits a patch of loose gravel. We’re traffic, and belong in the lanes with the rest of traffic.

It depends on whether you define the seasons based on light or temperature. Temperatures may lag, but the solstices are still the lightest and darkest days of the year. In the British Isles, temperatures don’t vary all that much through the year, due to warming from the Gulf Stream, but because they’re so far north, they get much more variation of light than the US. So it makes sense for them to define seasons based on light, and hence the solstice is midsummer.

I had a feeling that was the recipe you were going to post. Interestingly, nearly the exact same recipe is also found in India.

Oh, and it’s also really good if you add fresh tomatoes, too.

@Alexikakos
My family makes the same salad, except we also add boiled potatoes and chopped onions. Make sure the vinegar is cider vinegar. It’s our biggest Easter tradition (specifically Easter because you have to harvest the greens before they bloom, or they get bitter).

They might not let him in the room unsupervised, but if he contacted the people who actually use the cyclotron (not the university administration), he could almost certainly arrange a tour of the lab, and probably even watch it in operation. Nerds like showing off as much as anyone else.

Yes, but if Bryson Elementary is typical of public schools, there are about three computers per classroom, so the hardback books are still necessary.

And just who do you think the person responsible for taking down and stowing the swings would be? Hardly a surprise they’re still up.
