When your opinion starts off calling those who don’t agree with the direction of the strip “haters”, you might expect some feedback.

Jock just doesn’t understand the fine art of the doggie nap.

You’ve read worse? That is your standard of what is quality work? So Alley Oop is a story of a time traveling cave man. When did we last see Doc Wonmug? Oh yeah that was on September 1, 2015 when he sent Oola and Oop back to Moo. Thirteen months ago. Oop arrived in Moo to find out Lem and invaded and all the Moovians were held in a cave. Oop freed them and we are still dealing with the next couple of days events and it has taken thirteen months! Oola – she hasn’t been seen since Febraury 5. Do I think someone else could do better? You’re darned right I do.

The Benders are in their 80’s and don’t cut it anymore. It is time to hand off the strip to a capable crew.

aabybob, I didn’t see your request for the link to Alley Oop’s Google Docs until the morning. I put it in yesterday’s comments, but here it is again.

I don’t proofread my own writing very well. The site I used was actually NewspaperArchives.com. I also wanted to thank the reader who posted the link to the Google Docs site. It has provided me with hours of entertainment and I appreciate your kindness in sharing it.

I have previously read every daily episode of Alley Oop using Newspapers.com. I looked up Alley Oop for each calendar day and had numerous choices of newspapers that where publishing the strip. The dailies are all there but the Sunday strip was hit and miss.

A couple of months ago another reader, I apologize I don’t remember who it was so that I could give proper credit, pointed out the Google Docs site. It has the 1932 strips but is spotty until 1935 when all the dailies are there and some of the Sunday strips, depending on the year. I have now reread through 1978 and plan on eventually making through 2008 which is the last year available there.

I have followed Alley Oop for years. When I was a young boy my father would always read me the Sunday comics. Alley Oop was one of his favorites and became mine as well. After college my local newspaper carried Alley Oop but then dropped it. I cancelled my local paper subscription as a result. Count me among those who is very disappointed in where the Benders have taken the strip. It was not always so as some of their earlier work was very good. I continue to read the strip because of my long history with it and how it brings back great memories of my dad.

An astute observation. The prison cave was in use in Moo long before the pit. In the April 1934 Hamlin Alley Oop, Lem under King Tunk had invaded Moo. Alley Oop with Dinny as his secret weapon drives off the Lemmians. On April 11,1935 Alley Oop frees his fellow Moovians from the Prison Cave. Alley Oop was held there on a number of occasions. When Alley Oop traveled through time jail cells could not hold him because he could bend the steel bars. I am not aware of any story lines where he broke out of the Prison Cave by breaking the bars.

I have thought the same thing. Perhaps the Benders feel that the issue was resolved because the Wizer told Guz how the Lemmians had tunneled their way out of the pit. Pretty lame reason to forget treason in my opinion.

I believe the first strip in that story was on Sunday August 7. Alley is given the Wizer position on August 21. The story ends on Sunday November 13 when Guz fires Oop.
