Well, not exactly Old Texan. The Germans, Russians, Spanish and Belgians had no love at for Napoleon. He invaded their countries mostly under pretext. France and perhaps Italy were the only countries that had a great love for Napoleon.

The province of Quebec has the Napoleonic code. It also has the second largest French speaking city in the world.

Point Roberts in WashingtonState is a similar example. It is completely surrounded by British Columbia.

A geopolitical oddity, Point Roberts is a part of the mainland United States but is not physically connected to it, making it a pene-exclave of the U.S.

What Gmartin says is basically true. It is also true for the ruling family of Russia at the time. Czar Nicolas and King George V were cousins but looked like brothers.

However none of these points have actually anything to do with why the German navy was confined to Scapa Flow. The truth is that the Germans had been already defeated at sea, and the navy was impounded by the British. The negotiations dragged on to wind up the war and the German admiral got antsy and ordered the fleet scuttled. German seaman had spent the nine months preparing the ships to go under so it went fairly smoothly.

Even so the Brits saved about 12 ships right off the bat and over the years pulled many out for scrap metal.

Especially since the laser is trained on the area below the belt…. and inching a cut up the table.

Apparently Sean was a little nervous during that filming.

I think the problem was that it was taking too much time away from archery practise.

In spite of the movie version, there were no Americans involved in the great escape by the way. The actual digging was done mostly by Canadian airmen who had been miners.

Knowing the power of bureaucrats, maybe it was 2 hours to do the flying and 2 days to do the resulting paper work?
