I was torn on this issue until I examined by basic belief in economics. Demand drives everything. Giving the lower income earners a SHOT at reaching the middle class will create a greater demand for goods/services and increase demand, thus improving our economy.

As for those crying,“INFLATION!!!”, we’ve been waiting on inflation ever since the stimulus and TARP, and it really hasn’t been a problem. I"ll risk a little inflation rather than our current state of affairs.

Now, somebody say, “Oh, we need a tax cut for the rich”. PLEASE.

I cannot stand the arugment “my gun doesn’t hurt people, PEOPLE hurt people.” Of freaking course! But your gun does make it a HELL of a lot easier to hurt MORE people, hurt them BADLY, and do it QUICKLY.

No one is asking for a credit card w/ no spending limit. The debt ceiling is hardly part of this debate (yet). All Boehner has to do is VOTE on a clean spending bill, and it will PASS with Bi-partisan support!. A small part of the House is holding the rest of the country hostage.

So either you feel the hungry can starve to death quietly, or you feel by simply cutting $, that it will magically go only to the GOOD people who need it, and not the lazy. If you want reform, great…REFORM. Instead we simply cut everyone’s benefits b/c of a few bad apples. Good people will suffer b/c of this.

A strange opinion. Fortunately, most Americans do not see it that way. See any poll.

@Echoraven. You say “Lefty’s” believe “the constitution IS the enemy to their version of “democracy” where the benevolence of the government is paramount.”. What foolishness. What is in question is the INTERPRETATION of the constitution. (I for one do not consider the average person to be part of a “militia”). Furthermore, our government is by the people, for the people. All voting Americans are The Government, and the majority of the people want background checks. The senators failed the people they represent.

The truth here is that conservatives devour their failures. Bush wasn’t at Rep. convention, Rove and Romney have gone underground.

I don’t feel this is just a “dig” at Bush. It’s a comment that while the Dems are proud of what they’ve done, the Reps don’t want to give us the opportunity to ponder what happened with the last Rep. President. (two wars, Great Recession…)
