Science Fiction Convention Costuming lore (before it became “cosplay” still tells the story of the Green Martian, who dyed a good deal of his skin with green food coloring to create the effect for the Masquerade. He was a corporate lawyer…

OMG, my late mother. She’d have killed me knowing how many of her “good” tablecloths (that she never used and was “saving”) I gave away to friends because the number of them was ridiculous.

Have to agree with Linus, sometimes you can only take so much of someone so wishy-washy whining .

Sorry, I’m with Brad here. Jonah knows exactly how to do the minimum for Shannon to keep her happy but then leaves all the real work for everyone else. I can understand why Brad is angry – both he and Toni have done much more for that little girl that her wannabe star father. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them reach a limit with Jonah and move for custody after they are married. And I think Jonah would be thrilled with that – that way he can ignore Shannon aside from doing what he did here, namely showing up once in a while to be the “star” daddy without the responsibility for the tough stuff in real life.

I got married in 1985, during the Dallas and Dynasty period on television (remember Linda Evans’ huge shouldered gowns???). I have always been broad shouldered, and nearly all the wedding dresses had huge shoulder pads and gigantic sleeves. I would come out of the dressing room in one and watch my mother cover her mouth trying not to laugh – I looked like Terry Bradshaw in drag.. Thankfully, there was one dress company, Jena, that made a fitted sleeve dress with minimal shoulder padding.

Now we have the opposite problem, too many wedding and bridesmaid dresses that are strapless, which don’t work with big shoulders or if you are well-endowed. My hairdresser is directly across the street from a Catholic church, and I can’t tell you how many times we’ve watched “mammarially-blessed” brides and attendants posing on the steps for photos and continually tugging their dresses up to stay covered.

Way to go, Gunther! It’s about time somebody told off Ms. Know-It-All." You’re not a counselor yet, Bernice, you have a LOT to learn about people. And about yourself, first.

Nylons/pantyhose died a quick death once models and actresses started going bare-legged on the red carpet. The late Mr. Blackwell hated the bare leg trend. And when I was still working full time in medical communications companies, I remember our younger female team members being irritated when they were told to wear pantyhose or nylon knee highs to pitches and presentations. We did one pitch and they were told this was absolute because one woman in the particular pharma company was extremely conservative about how her potential marketing team should look. We got there and said exec showed up wearing a sparkly gold sheer blouse, gold leather pants, and strappy sandals. She looked liked a trashy Oscar statue…

The Wikipedia entry for the comic strip calls her Cathy Andrews Hillman, so the assumption there is that she took Irving’s name.
