You’re spot on, Argy. Remember when the principal asked Tiff to send in the next applicant after finishing her interview? Tiff saw Luann waiting her turn and told the principal… ’There’s no one out there. So should I just show up on Monday?’ After that on the next installment, presumably after Luann’s interview, the principal ‘realized’ that there were actually 2 openings and told Luann and Tiffany that both of them were hired. So, Tiffany failed to ‘one-up’ Luann yet again.
‘Principal Jay Lenoschin’…
My, but you guys are in FINE form today! My belly is aching from laughing so hard at all of the comments. Does that make this a ‘Stomic Rip’? Yeah, I do think that Gunther will be back to fill the vacancy left by Tiffany’s hasty departure. The question remains, however— what, if anything, will fill the vacancy that’s left between Tiffany’s ears?

Actually, ‘fear of water’, as you probably know by now, is only a literal translation of another name for rabies. My folks went through that phase too back in the day. For those who might not know, or who got lucky and escaped that nonsense… rabies is called hydrophobia because it causes paralysis of the swallowing muscles in the progressing stages, and the victim (animal or human) can’t swallow water or saliva without choking. Of course we fear things that make us gag or choke.Tha paralysis is also why rabid dogs and people are said to foam at the mouth… because they can’t swallow their own spit. They were probably trying to freak you into thinking that you were going to get rabies from some random object that MIGHT have been licked or peed on by some random animal. Hydrophobia sounds ‘scarier’ and more ‘official’ than the word ‘rabies’, I guess! But yeah, Quill had better grab the Listerine, and the Ajax, and be sure his shots are all up to date (and Tiff’s shots, too).

I know, right? It is unbelievable, even though we all knew it was coming at some point. ♥
They don’t work at the same station. Where I live, I know of a few firefighter couples who work at different ‘houses’. Same with a few cop couples that I know. Different stations or different units— one in patrol another in, say, juvenile. Because I’ve been a volunteer with our city’s Office of Emergency Management for over 20 years and am an officer (not a LEO, just in the leadership segment of our various groups— I’m involved with CERT, REACT and RACES and serve as a liaison), I know quite a few LEO’s and FF’s rather well. So, it might not pose any problem, unless they try to get into the same firehouse.
Brad saved 3 lives… Zane’s, in the bookstore fire when Brad was still an EMT (Brad got a suspension for that, because he violated safety protocols— though he was still recognized for his noble act, and even his super felt bad having to enforce the rule); Dirk’s, after Dirk wrecked out his car while chasing Brad and Toni; and Toni’s, when she had that fall. Brad broke Toni’s fall and sustained injuries which landed him in the hospital. The fall was symbolic, as you all probably know. Yes, at first blush, she slipped on a wet ladder and it fit the storyline of them responding to a fire. Slips like that can happen even to R/L firefighters. But Greg was hinting through that episode, that Toni was ‘falling for Brad’. I saw that one right off. :)
Here’s a perspective from someone who has been in multiple abusive relationships, starting with parents… and in one now with no way to leave. When one is abused, especially long term, one does not trust their own judgment, even if others see it as spot on. The abused individual has trouble trusting others, even if there has never been ANY indication that the other person would become abusive. There is always the feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. ‘Hmmm, so when is THIS person going to turn on me and start abusing me like almost everyone else has?’ Sometimes, even counseling cannot help the victim of repeated abuse from multiple people (parents, spouse, romantic partners, teachers, etc.). It sounds hard to believe, but there are people who are just targets, and community punching bags. I was abused by both parents… physical, emotionally, sexually. I was abused by multiple romantic partners. I was abused by 2 spouses— an ex, and now my current (though he doesn’t hit me like others did, he is controlling and emotionally cold and cruel. Part of his control is financial, meaning he keeps me monetarily dependent, as in if my car breaks down, he won’t help me fix it. Then he won’t help me with bus fare to get to a job so I wind up getting fired and have no more income of my own in order to be able to afford to leave). I’ve sabotaged some good, healthy relationships in my fear that irt was all a facade and the abuse would start again— ‘hey, almost everyone else has abused me, so why should I expect anything different now?’ Then it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle. Now, if I ever DO manage to get out of this relationship, I will probably NEVER pursue another one. Why bother? I’ll just end up sabotaging that one out of fear, or else he’ll just be another abuser like the rest of them....I wonder if that’s what’s going on with Toni, a form of PTSD that causes her to sabotage, but through wbat she sees as being honest, but subconsciously it’s a defense mechanism.
Agreed… but remember, he has his strips done 6 weeks ahead of time, so there’s no way he could accurately gauge the response to any given arc or single strip. But if he has any sense and has been following the reactions over the long-term, he would be able to figure out that it would be ‘suicide’ to break these two up. They aren’t the title characters, but this ‘BraToni’ theme has taken on a life of its own. It’s just as big a reason for many of us to follow the strip as Luann herself is, and for some readers— perhaps it IS the main reason for following along. To kill this relationship would be to kill off probably half the readership (in my guess)
