I like the way that the “one small step” line is quoted in the strip. Armstrong has been criticized for saying “one small step for man…,” as without the word “a,” “man” and “mankind” mean the same thing. Armstrong has responded by saying that he did say, “one small step for a man,” but that the word “a” was simply inaudible in the broadcast and recording.

I love a story with a happy ending!

Mark is overestimating our ability to be collectively outraged. Even if either party blatantly stole the election and there was absolute, irrefutable proof that the outcome of the election was changed via nefarious means, we’d do no more than grouse about it for a few days. Anybody who still dwelt on the issue for more than a week would be viewed as an extremist crackpot.

Eighty-first down, and 3,423 yards to go. This would be a good place for a quarterback sneak. Obviously we’re in 400-down territory here.

I’ve found algebra to be useful countless times in my adult life. Geometry has been useful on occasion. Calculus, ummm…, don’t think I’ve used that since college.

If your offensive line can protect the quarterback for about 60 seconds, it sounds like a great route!

Sigh. My one consolation is that I only discovered this strip a couple of years ago, so much of the archival collection remains new to me. That’s a very small consolation, though – Cul de Sac will be sorely missed. Reading the strip has often offered the most delightful part of my day. Good-bye, Alice & Co., and best of luck, Mr. Thompson.

Ah, the AKC is indeed evil. They judge dogs principally on their aesthetics, and thereby encourage people to overbreed dogs with select characteristics, even if those characteristics are bad for the dog’s well-being (pugs’ and bulldog’s snouts that are too short for proper breathing, G. shepherds’ rear taper which causes hip displacia, etc., etc.). They also promote the purchase of dogs from breeders instead of taking potluck at a shelter, and by encouraging breeding they’re increasing the supply of dogs far more than they increase the demand, thereby causing more dogs to be put to death. (Anybody who allows their dog to have puppies causes an increase in the number of dogs that are put to death unless they create new demand for dogs that is proportional to the increased supply that they have produced.)
