Well said, Susan Newman. Romney’s evident lack of empathy marks him as a sociopath.

TR felt betrayed by his chosen succesor, William Howard Taft, who failed to follow up on any of the progressive initiatives that he had begun as President, including natural conservation and regulation of industry. Had Taft and his machine not controlled the GOP establishment in 1912, the rank and file of the Republican Party would probably have nominated Roosevelt and he would have gone on to defeat Wilson.

My first reading of The Martian Chronicles is one of the cherished memories of my adolescence. Reading it again later, as well as his other works, I’ve come even more to appreciate the lyrical power of Bradbury’s writing. Who else could boil down Moby-Dick (in his screenplay for the John Huston film version) to its essence and actually improve on Melville, at least in the climactic scene?i

The GOP is mounting an all-out war against democracy. They know they are in danger of losing national power permanently, since their economic policies favor only the wealthy and their fanatical and-or flat-out false positions on everything from reproductive rights to climate change are alenating the majority of the American people. So, making it a lot more difficult, or impossible, for potential Democratic voters to vote is key to their strategy for holding onto power as long as possible. That this clearly deprives many U.S. citizens of their right to vote doesn’t appear an issue for Republican strategists or their apologists.

Bravo, Monsieur Stahler! How often do you see an editorial cartoon that uses a reference from art history for a comment on our society’s obsession with isolation withn technology?
