Many gardeners find they need to stop and just stare at what they created, or at least stop to smell the roses.

I confess that while I am tending my small city garden I literally stop and stare at it. Though this does actually help with pest control. While staring at my lilies growing up through a low growing “Fairy” rose I saw some bug eggs deposited at the base of some lily leaves. So I took my gloved hand and crushed them.

I have no idea what kind of bugs they were, but I do know they were not ladybug (ladybird beetle) eggs…. I have learned what both the eggs and resulting larvae look like. I encourage them!

Though I am waiting to find myself being described on my local “Nextdoor” social thread as the “weird person walking through the neighborhood smelling our roses.” I confess, I walk through my neighborhood and smell the flowers.

Oh wow, that is familiar. I grew up camping, and was excited when I met a guy who was from a small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island (a fairly woolly wild part of western Canada). But alas, I was wrong.

I probably married one of the few from that island who does not camp (and his cousins also think it is weird). So I have spent the last thirty five years “camping” in motels and hotels. Somehow I got used to not sleeping in a tent.

That is my dad! I thought I was the only teenager in the late 1960s/early 1970s who had to ask their father to turn down the music, especially during certain Wagner bits.

Also, he had rigged up his hifi system to turn on at 6am and turn off at 10pm. If he was not playing his LPs (heavy with opera), it was tuned to the local classical music station.

Le sigh. Yes, I did go see Wagner’s Ring Cycle when I was in college, and thoroughly loved it. Some things did rub off.

Yes, it was. When they opened stores on the west coast that turned out be THE treat one needed to bring to school, office, etc.

    Now, not so much.

So what would happen if she was using a serger?

I found this happens often when a child’s friend comes over for frequent sleepovers. With one it was after getting a new step parent.

Urg, too late at night: “I need actual evidence.” There is a reason I send my dad snail mail. It is how I get my part of the conversation included.

But I want them to listen to my conversations with a certain parent. I actual evidence that I said the properly enunciated “uh huh” during the whole hour long phone call where I get so say a total of ten words.

Hey! My Boeuf Bourguinon is very tasty and a family favorite!

It is similar to the Canadian version above but much simpler.
