    It could be that Farrar had an other condition (virus?) that made his blood useless. Or it could be that the local health regulation said “better safe than sorry”, and excluded patients with hemochromatosis from donating blood.

    That’s why I had to stop giving blood – it’s something of an ethical thing; blood donors are supposed to screen themselves (any risky behaviour?), and they can’t quite trust us the same as people who do not have to let blood.

    Biologically speaking, in isolation from ethical question, hemochromatosis does not make blood any less usable.

    For blood (and other liquid) pressure, size doesn’t matter so much as height. Specifically, the difference in elevation covered by one pump. And the giraffee is not just the tallest animal, but also has only one pump (the heart) …
