And they got this clean just from washing up in a sink, with soap and a washcloth? I hate to think what they (and the fire crew attending as guests) still smell like. Underneath that tux and gown, the couple must still be filthy and sweat-drenched! Would it have been asking too much from this story to let them stop off at the fire station first, so that they could shower? Was it really necessary from the drama that they had to get to the cottage just in the very nick of time? Adn I’m sorry, but there’s just no way Toni’s hair could look like that when she has just come back from fighting a brush fire and has only rinsed in a sink. Give us a break!

    > “I was hoping they would be atheists… oh well, nobody’s perfect”

“Perfect” is not an adjective that I would have thought to associate with Brad. :)

Sure, Greg can make this be a ceremony with a clergyman, but it would be the very first time (wouldn’t it?) that the DeGroots have been shown as practicing a religion, so it would be inconsistent with all his previous depiction of the characters in the strip.

    > There are also religions in which there is a god or gods but no afterlife

Indeed, it may be believed that being immortal is the very definition of a god.

We’ve never seen the DeGroots attend a church service, have we? They would seem to be agnostics. If the wedding is officiated by a member of the clergy, that would be the first time they’ve been shown to be believers, wouldn’t it? It would therefore make a lot more sense for this to be a civil ceremony, officiated by a Justice of the Peace.

Oh course, when Jack stood Shuana up on their movie date, that had nothing to do with bullying. Jack simply forgot, since he was too involved with trying to catch the toddler-snatching beast.

When did Chip get out of the Army? Around 1970, wasn’t it? If so, then he must have been one of the earliest PAs.

That school ought to know by now not to build any wooden structures on campus.

    > For those who were unhappy to miss the actual scenes of firefighting by Toni and Brad, here is a little remembrance.>Actually, today is a chance to miss it again. Not only are they not fighting a fire in this flashback, there’s no evidence that there is, or ever was, a fire. The house and lawn are undamaged and seemingly unthreatened. From all appearances, Brad may just as well have been paying a social visit on this homeowner. This is a strip that eschews action and will always let everything exciting happen “off-camera” and then just have people talk about it afterwards, and that’s that. Think of it as the inverse Dick Tracy.

Seriously, can’t these people take time to go to the first station first and take a shower? I’m sure the owner of the wedding cottage doesn’t want them to show up covered in a hillside’s worth of ash and dirt that they would trek all over the floor.
