Can some one tell me, would Americans in the 1940s talk about the “Radio”? The British at that time would have always said the “Wireless”. Notwithstanding the BBC’s schedule magazine was called “Radio Times”, even my grandparents would always say the wireless.

Is the butcher stretching his arm? Or reaching for his phone? Or for his ciggies? Or perhaps something else …

Yes! Perhaps this answers my question of WHY they are running this massive deception. If the old boy is already a little batty and living in his memories, reinforcing them like this might shake something loose.

I’m with you all on the “they both know the truth” view. However we still have a lot to find out. First and foremost, WHY is this being staged? Is someone selling snake-oil time-travel to Diet and trying to provide fake evidence? Or trying a “mission impossible” illusion to reveal something that Tracy remembers? Or is it a plot against Warbucks in some way? They are burning a LOT of assets to do this, so it must be something huge.

As Tracy doesn’t have a private airstrip outside his house, I’m assuming this means an 18 mile flight from the nearest mainland airstrip, since there won’t be any scheduled (or charter) flights anyway. So I don’t think it tells us anything about Tracy’s home or home city.

The whole degrees can only give you accuracy to about 60 nautical miles in each direction, so you need some additional clue to get a fix. The Washington stamp seems like a good one, though there are an awful lot of Washingtons in the USA. It could indeed be the island, or it could be a street, building, school, park, …
I’ll bet there is a bit more to the message.
Good to see some real detection with clues and deductions.

Consider the timing fellows. Despite the flexible nature of time in DT land, it has taken a LONG time to drag that lake, which implies that it is a pretty big body of water. If it goes deep, or has a rough or debris strewn bottom, that would making dragging it a lot harder. In those circumstances, the fugitives would have quite a long time to get away in their adapted car. If they could travel underwater and had enough air (or a snorkel), they could wait until the following night to drive out anywhere along the shoreline.
