Several years ago, a local hotel had a phone number one off from mine and actually advertised our number as theirs for a year. Of course, even 5 years later, people were using our number. Most fun call was a guy from Russia who spoke no English and I speak no Russian but we figured things out in (very) limited French! (sept, pas cinq)

You don’t live in a city. Take a large lot with one house, tear it down and build 3 big houses on that lot that now is divided into thirds. If you are lucky, you have six feet between each house.

I am a bit behind on my Economist reading, but I could not believe that review. Based on the comments and description of the book, it sounded like the reviewer expected some counter examples of how happy some slaves were and how generous some owners were. Yes, there were slaves who found a path to be content in the conditions and there were some owners who were “kinder” than others. Still, the only objective view of slavery describes it, in any time and location, as evil.
I’m glad to hear that the magazine recognized that the review was a piece of crap.

I followed the strip up to the last action, so thank you for the “punch line”!
    This was good today.

Totally agree, thank you for saying it better than I could have.
I was thinking it would be interesting to put your comment in the Mallard Fillmore comments, then I read all the comments here and realized there was no need for that. Good public education used to be a strong conservative principal. It needs to be a bipartisan effort. And following the earlier model, for all those of you who see only lousy public schools, when is the last time you volunteered in the school or even spent time supporting your own children’s efforts in the public schools?

I don’t think I would have gone to that barber. Even figuring 50 weeks a year and six day every week for 50 years, that would be about 65 heads a day, every day. maybe he was military! still that is a lot of heads.

I am happy being right now, but to visit a different time as a trip would be fun. Getting all those shots and carrying some antibiotics would be a good idea.
I have always thought the 1920"s would be fascinating with all the changes that were occurring faster than ever before.

I try to remember that this is a comic and that new ideas are fun, but this scares me to shivers down my spine!
They at least have to put on those curved balance bars used in tightrope walking that would lower the center of gravity to below the lower rider. And how does the top rider even get up there? ahhh, of course, you jump off the garage roof.
