I guess the cards and memorials make people feel better after a senseless murder. It would be nice if we would also do something to make things better. There are 30 or 40 shootings every week in Chicago resulting in a half a dozen deaths. Many are innocent bystanders. This year 38 cars have been shot at on the expressways by other aggressive drivers. We have a “mass” shooting about every week now. How bad does it have to get before we try to at least take a moderate, middle of the road approach to trying to reduce the carnage?

Unfortunately there is a lot of truth in this. In terms of deaths and trillion dollar wars I fear the conservatives a lot more than Iran.

    We need gun owner control.

Maybe you could arrange to have Go Comics automatically put in your Obama basing comment every day and save a lot of time typing?

Perhaps if we had some reasonable gun owner licensing training similar to what we do for driver’s licenses, we would have a better chance of noticing the mentally unstable? It would also discourage the impulse buyers and help reduce the large number of guns floating around in our society. You wouldn’t need to restrict ownership or register guns but make it a little harder to buy one while providing some safety and legal liability training.

Why not start with something reasonable? Real background checks for all buyers and a simple license procedure for would be owner that give them a little training on legal liability, safety and use? We do that in most other activities that present a potential hazard to the public.

It is political extremism again. The conservatives want to have no laws concerning the ownership and use of guns. The liberals want to go out and collect them all in an outright ban. Neither position makes any sense. All it does is keep anything from getting done. Some simple commons sense regulation could make a big difference but it is likely we will just continue to wage the war between the sects for the rest of time.

It is very hard to imagine how a law could have prevented this problem. He did legally buy the gun because he did not have a conviction nor was he committed to a mental health facility. That said, we should pass laws requiring background checks for all sales of firearms, we should have a law something like a drivers license that requires a degree of training on legal liability, safety, and practical knowledge of use before anybody buys a gun. It is just the same common sense we apply to drivers and any activity that has significant safety risks to the public. If nothing else it would reduce the ridiculous number of guns floating around in this country by eliminating impulse buying by those who really have little or no interest in hunting, defense or competition.

Great comment. People obsess over the debt but they rarely understand it. Every company, county and individual uses debt to help them grow and accomplish their goals. As you point out as long at the amount of debt is scaled properly it is good for the country. I would guess a lot of people with first mortgages are in a lot deeper.

When someone makes a scene at a press conference they should be ejected. I would like to see that happen a lot more often. All of the other journalists and observers are there to get questions answered and gather information. Why should one obnoxious person be allowed to disrupt the proceedings? Of course Trump had to be obnoxious himself by opening his big mouth and telling the person to go back to where ever they came from..
