Schulz used the phone number of a real-life friend of his, who immediately began getting calls the moment people started reading the paper that day. Fortunately his friend was understanding & forgiving, although I believe he eventually had to change his number because of the sheer amount of phone calls he was getting.

They had seatbelts in ‘64? Because growing up in the 70s, we never had them. I don’t think I wore one until the end of the 80s.
And the parents don’t mind his being out all night?
Did vets make house calls back then?
Hitchcock’s The Birds had just come out when this ran.
