This is really an offensive cartoon today.

It seems to me the English translation is missing what seems to be a play on words — wouldn’t the final frame be referring to “finals” (as in final exams), not endings? That would make it funnier.

Well, in all the knitting groups I’ve met with I’ve never seen ANYone hold needles like that while knitting. They’re just seen like that in cartoons by unobservant cartoonists.

I’ve been a knitter for over 50 years and have never held my needles upside down like that!

Back in the 1970’s, our newspaper (in Eugene, OR) ran a story about the huge numbers of people with PhD’s waiting table, and the large number of people with Master’s (in Arts or Science) who drove our buses! Underemployment was rampant in that timber-industry state (since diversified and better off).

Maybe it has to do with China’s paltry assistance to the Philipines after last week’s hurricane? One of the reasons they didn’t send much help was purportedly due to old antipathies with Japan’s relationship with the Philippines.

We’ve started avoiding any stores that start with the Christmas schlock before Thanksgiving. Plenty of other places to get stuff.
