I’ve done a big update to the blog so I’m now only a month behind. I aim to be completely up-to-date by Monday, when the 1,000th Smith strip get published….

As promised, here’s the colour version of yesterday’s strip.

Today’s strip is uncoloured because my Wacom Tablet had a surprise encounter with a bottle of Dr Pepper yesterday and I found myself without any input devices. I hope to be able to replace this with a colour version tomorrow.

I contemplated making it green, but decided against it.

My wife’s home town in NM had a thriving Main Street till they built the mall. Then they had a thriving mall till they built the Walmart. Now they have a Walmart.

Our final guest car for this series is the Peugeot 205 GTI, beloved of boy racers and pushy junior executives in the 1980s.

Today’s guest car is a 1950s Morris Minor 1000, which is up there with the Mini (designed by the same bloke 10 years later) as a British design icon. You’ll still see plenty of these chugging around the countryside on a Sunday afternoon.

Yes, it does rain a lot here, which is why we make the most of it on those rare occasions when the sun actually does shine. Amazingly, the UK was/is the biggest market for convertibles in the EU. It’s the triumph of optimism over common sense.

Today’s guest car is the Renault Wind, which lasted about a year in the UK because no-one bought one. After all, would you buy a car named after flatulence? Wednesday’s car, underneath all the seagull poo, was my own Honda Jazz.

One of the joys of living on the coast is looking out of the window every morning to see which cars have won the seagull lottery.
